Cádiz Tapas Tour: Market, Freiduría & Sherry

Eat your way through Cádiz – with a local, in a small group.

The tour

Cádiz eats differently from Seville: more sea, more fried food, more sherry. On this tapas tour you get to know the city through its kitchen – with Eugenio, who lives here and shows you where the Gaditanos themselves eat.

We start at Plaza de San Juan de Dios and walk to the Mercado Central, Spain's oldest covered market. There you taste chicharrones, mojama and cheese from the Sierra de Cádiz and find out what's on the fish stalls. Then on to Plaza de las Flores and a classic freiduría: pescaíto frito and tortillitas de camarones, the dish you only find like this in Cádiz.

In La Viña, the fishermen's quarter and heart of the Carnaval, we have papas aliñás and mackerel with piriñaca. To finish, we sit down in an old taberna for Manzanilla and Fino from the barrel, the way it's been done here for generations.

Walking distances are short, no more than 10 minutes between stops. Vegetarian alternatives are available at every stop – please let us know when booking.
